As the poet/author/illustrator of this work I have found my source of
topic from “experience.” I have been a counselor for most of my life; and
I have noted, over and over again----when working with the human
family----that it is unfortunate that such circumstances of human
relationships come to pass (“nearly” in everyone's life) where one person
thinks themselves to be better than . . . more intelligent/smarter than . . .
more important than . . . better looking than . . . stronger than . . . more
entitled than . . . wealthier than . . . more popular than . . . more correct
than . . . more “together” than . . . more righteous than, etc., etc, . . .
someone else. AND, when we erroneously set ourselves up to think that
we are better than anyone else, for any reason, we have also set our self
up to the dangers of becoming a member of the human “behavioral-
family” of “Bullies,” “judgers,” “selfish,” “ignorant,” and “hurtful”people;
hurtful people that make this world---and the classroom---less of a
pleasant place to be, work and live. It's hard to know what---in fact---has
brought any person to do what they do, or live how they live . . . we
cannot know their every circumstance, so it is better BY FAR to be kind,
compassionate, understanding, thoughtful, caring and loving to
everyone . . . and I say this to myself as well; no matter what our
perceptions are of their life and their dress, their looks, their speech,
their color, their religion or any of their circumstances. Truly, it is
impossible to know the horrible damage our inappropriate words,
actions and feelings can do to someone else's life. Hence, ANXEE's story
is that of a beetle being on the receiving end of bullying, harsh words
and mean actions by others. I hope that you (every one of you . . . adult
and child, alike) learn from your reading of this story; and that you take
the time to discuss with your children and grand-children the terrible
consequences of bullying.
